How can I book an appointment?
Call us on 567 212 218, or email mddrsvoma@gmail.com. If we are not currently accepting new patients, you can join our waiting list.
What happens at my first visit?
After booking, please arrive in the waiting room and wait for the nurse to collect you. We will take X-rays, then bring you into the surgery and seat you in the dental chair. The dentist will ask about your medical history and any urgent concerns. A thorough examination of your teeth and gums, dental photographs and any further tests will follow. We will then review the findings together and agree on a treatment plan suited to your schedule and budget.
How often should I have a check-up?
We recommend a check-up once a year for adults and twice a year for children under 18. If you have a problem, contact us without waiting for your routine visit.
Should I brush my teeth before or after breakfast?
We recommend brushing before breakfast, especially if you eat acidic foods or drink fruit juice. Acids can temporarily soften the surface of tooth enamel. Sugars also provide fuel for plaque bacteria to produce more acids.
Brushing immediately after acidic food or drink can contribute to wear of the softened tooth surface. Repeated over time, this may cause enamel loss, sensitivity and defects that may require dental treatment.
If you prefer brushing after breakfast, rinse your mouth with water after acidic foods or fruit juice and wait approximately 60 minutes before brushing. This gives saliva time to neutralise acids and help the enamel surface harden again. Brush gently with fluoride toothpaste.
How does dental hygiene work at your practice?
We do not currently provide dental hygiene treatment ourselves. However, a very skilled dental hygienist, Hana Bělohlávková, DiS., works in the same building, and our patients can use her services.
Phone: 776 700 130
E-mail: belohlavkova@zubní-polna.cz
Of course, you may also visit another dental hygienist according to your own preferences.
What is the weight limit of your dental chair?
Our dental chair (MOCOM F10 dental unit) has a maximum safe weight capacity of 120 kg. For this reason, we are unfortunately unable to treat or examine patients who exceed this weight at our practice. In that case, it is necessary to visit a specialist facility with a dental unit designed for patients of a higher weight.
Does dental treatment hurt?
We aim for effective anaesthesia for every patient. Before an anaesthetic injection, we apply Benzogel numbing gel to the gum to reduce discomfort from the needle. Once the anaesthetic takes effect, the area is numb; this usually lasts about two hours and then gradually wears off.
Do you also treat children?
Yes, we also treat children. We adapt our approach to their age and needs and explain each step so they know what to expect. A calm, unhurried first visit helps.
What should I bring?
Bring your health insurance card and a list of medicines you take regularly. You may also bring recent X-rays or reports relevant to your treatment.
What should I do if I suddenly have toothache?
Call us on 567 212 218 as soon as possible and describe your symptoms. We will agree on the next steps. If symptoms worsen rapidly, or you develop swelling or a fever, do not wait for a routine check-up.
Are you accepting new patients?
Whether we can accept new patients depends on our current capacity. If no spaces are available, you can complete the waiting list application. Joining the list does not reserve an appointment or confirm registration.
How much will my treatment cost?
The price depends on the extent and complexity of treatment. Indicative fees are listed in our price list. Before treatment, we will explain the proposed procedure and any fees for services not covered by insurance.
Why is root canal treatment so expensive?
Root canal treatment requires considerable time and technical expertise. To thoroughly clean the root canal system, we use sterile endodontic instruments, including single-use instruments. Several are used to treat one tooth, and a single specialised instrument can cost more than CZK 2,000.
Treatment also requires a specialised endodontic motor integrated into the dental unit, with a purchase price of around CZK 80,000, as well as other equipment costing tens of thousands of Czech crowns.
The equipment requires regular servicing, maintenance and prescribed checks or inspections depending on the device. The treatment fee therefore includes the dentist’s work and time, consumables, and the cost of operating and maintaining this equipment.
Why do I have to pay for dental treatment?
Many patients wonder why dental care is fully or largely covered by insurance at some practices, while at others patients pay much of the cost themselves.
Several factors affect the price and outcome of dental treatment. High-quality work with lasting results requires sufficient time. Dental procedures generally take a predictable amount of time to perform correctly. If a dentist is impatient or has too little time for a patient, shortcuts can compromise the quality and durability of the result. At Vitasmile, we therefore allow enough time for every patient's treatment.
Another factor is continuing professional education. Dentists can attend a wide range of theoretical and practical courses, lectures and seminars. This requires time, energy and substantial financial investment, which improves the quality of care and enables dentists to offer the latest and most effective methods. Without ongoing education, they would not be familiar with these developments. Differences in technology, materials, patient comfort and additional services also explain why fees vary between practices.
These factors determine the practice's cost per minute, which varies between dentists. Treatment fees are calculated from the expected duration of each procedure and the practice's per-minute costs.
What about insurance payments for dental treatment?
Insurance payments for dental procedures have changed very little for many years. Reimbursement for a particular procedure usually falls well short of the per-minute treatment costs described above. These payments therefore cannot cover the current cost of high-quality dental care.
To provide high-quality work we can stand behind, insurance reimbursement alone cannot cover the materials, technology and time required. A dentist relying mainly on insurance payments must reduce costs per minute. This may mean older equipment or shorter treatment times, potentially reducing the quality of care for the patient.
For some procedures, the law does not permit combining insurance reimbursement with a patient payment. This is why treatment fees at many leading dental practices are higher.
Where is the practice?
You will find us at the health centre in Polná, at Varhánkova 227. Other healthcare services are also based in the building.
My parents often had dental problems. Will I have them too?
Genetics plays a negligible role in the development of oral diseases. By visiting our specialists early, you can minimise this risk
I am afraid of having a tooth extracted. Will it hurt?
We approach tooth extraction in the same way as all other procedures. We aim to make the procedure as gentle as possible and ensure patient comfort. Before every extraction, we administer both topical and local anaesthesia. After removing the tooth, we always place a protective dressing in the socket and secure it with an absorbable stitch. Thanks to this approach, there are no unpleasant complications and patients do not suffer unnecessarily for a long time at home.
When should a child come for their first dental visit?
Ideally, when the first tooth appears. Although there is not yet much to examine in the mouth, we explain to parents how to care properly for their child’s dental hygiene and go through the basic habits. Last but not least, the young patient gradually gets used to the environment of our dental practice.
Do you have contracts with health insurance companies?
Yes, we have contracts with all major health insurance companies. They contribute several hundred Czech crowns towards composite fillings, so you save money at our practice. Preventive check-ups and X-rays are covered by health insurance and are therefore free of charge for you.
Health insurance companies also contribute several hundred Czech crowns towards primary root canal treatment of incisors, canines and premolars. Root canal treatment of molars is not covered at all and must be paid for by the patient. Likewise, the patient must pay for root canal retreatment of any tooth.
